NEED
ATV Explorer is an adventure tourism company offering unique tours through the jungle in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Their main activities include ATV tours and visits to cenotes with the opportunity to swim. They are known for their respect and care for nature and the species that inhabit the park area. The project focused on the park's entrance area and involved adapting an existing concrete structure with a natural stone finish. The main sign was designed to simulate natural materials (wood, stone, and colors adapted to the company's branding, etc.), making it lightweight and durable. This durability was crucial because there was uncertainty about whether the existing structural framework and columns could support the weight of a more complex sign and frame.
PROCESS
Several designs were developed to fit the existing columns. Prior to this, we conducted several site visits and a survey to obtain measurements, determine the necessary materials, and ensure proper installation. The design also included a central sign and two lateral metal frames for displaying large-format advertisements to promote the company. The central sign was modeled from polystyrene foam, finished to resemble wooden planks, with an internal metal frame to ensure stability, given the length of the access point, which is just over six meters long. Fiberglass was then applied to ensure weather resistance. Similarly, the lateral frames were fabricated using a tubular steel frame and coated with fiberglass, incorporating a tropical wood-like texture.
RESULT
The central sign is a horizontal structure with a tropical wood texture and finish, featuring 3D fiberglass letters that adhere to the brand's corporate identity guidelines. The side frames have the same wood-like finish and are designed to hold large-format printed advertising banners. Our paint shop handled the final finishing, applying a combination of artisanal and industrial techniques and materials.
