NEED

The architectural plan included a large decorative piece to serve as the entrance to the water park, a large-scale sculpture evoking the iconic orange motorized balloon "BLIMP," used by Nickelodeon as a brand symbol. However, bringing this brilliant idea to fruition still required complex design and development.

PROCESS

The main factors of study were the dimension, modulation and position of the piece; a structure had to be designed with the capacity and safety to be mounted in a cantilever or overhang with the necessary firmness and supported by a precise calculation, the logistics of manufacturing, transportation, assembly and finally, that the aesthetics of the object were not compromised and supported by rigorous reviews of the Nickelodeon Experience Design (NED) team.

RESULT

Finally, an aesthetic design was conceived that allowed us to manufacture pieces modulated by the radial symmetry that arises from the shape of the piece; we manufactured special structures in the fiberglass workshop to make a large mold and achieve the continuity of these complex curved surfaces of large dimension, as well as to manufacture the structure in a modular way that would not complicate the assembly and that could support this enormous iconic piece.
