NEED

In all properties of the Margaritaville Resorts chain, either in the motor lobby or the interior lobby, there is displayed a very peculiar iconic sculpture that represents an entire concept from which the company was developed and motivated its founding. It is inspired by a song written by the owner, Jimmy Buffett, and is very popular. It represents a sandal whose strap was cut by an aluminum cap and was left forgotten in the sand.

Scenic has made many replicas of this sculpture for various properties both in the Caribbean and in the United States, however, this piece has a different formal and location characteristic, it carries a life preserver in the main body and is placed in the lobby/interior registration of a cruise ship, a new concept of services of the chain.

PROCESS

The difference between this sculpture and others we've created lies in the spatial considerations for assembly and transport. The assembly process was meticulous, as it exceeded the dimensions of a shipping container in many ways, and the access points on the cruise ship are limited. The finish was also different; in this particular case, the process involved artistic airbrushing. Technically, finding the ideal parameters was a challenge, as the sculpture's weight couldn't exceed the existing reinforcements in the ship's mezzanine.

RESULT

The result is exactly what the client was expecting, a unique piece with the quality that Scenic Studios continues to demonstrate, as well as the assembly and mounting systems that allowed the installation team a trouble-free process.
